I'm a grad student on a budget, but I like to get dressed up and I wear makeup, so I wanted a nice vanity table that would fit in my small NYC apartment and wouldn't put me in the poorhouse. There's a huge gap in vanities - it seems that you can either buy them for $100 or you can buy them for $300, with not much in between. So I decided to take a chance on this (I really had no choice; I can't afford a $300 vanity set!)
Glad I did! This is perfect for my needs. It's 28" across which means it fit nicely against one of my bedroom walls and doesn't take up too much space next to the TV stand. It was a breeze to put together - all you need is a screwdriver, everything else is there, and I assembled this in 30 minutes. The stool seems pretty sturdy, and it's not wobbly at all for me. I do want to comment that the stool is a different print than is depicted, though. I purchased this one specifically because I thought the white and dark pink rose pattern was so much prettier than the yellow and pink rose pattern another set had, but my stool is the yellow and pink rose pattern. Oh well. It looks very nice in the corner of my room. It's not going to be an heirloom piece, but I think it'll hold up until I am ready to buy a real house and get real furniture, lol.
As for functionality - another reviewer said that the table looks as if meant for children. I can't see how that would be, since most kids' feet wouldn't touch the floor nor would they be able to reach the table from the stool. I'm a petite woman (5'2" and 120 lbs) but about average as far as women go and I feel quite comfortable at the vanity table. The drawer is bigger than I thought it would be - I've got about 6 different foundation and blush pots, a really big eyeshadow palette, some smaller eyeshadow palettes and a couple of other assorted items in there with room for more. The mirror is a great size - I can see my whole head and neck in it, so I can see the effect of a full face of makeup and freshly done hair, not just my chin or something. I have a LOT of stuff on the top - I added a lamp, a small stand mirror I also got from Amazon.com (for precise eye makeup application - I wear glasses and I can't get close enough to the big mirror to apply it), a vanity organizer that's 15" across (also from Amazon.com), various bottles and potions, a box of cotton balls a box of cotton swabs and a clock. I still have room for a few more things and room to put my elbows on when I'm doing my face.
Basically it's my favorite piece of furniture and I'm really glad I bought it - it gives me a little bit of sophistication in the pretty poor life living on a grad student stipend in New York.
